- The Tulsa Sports Commission hosted 29 elite youth soccer teams this weekend for the second annual AC Milan Heartland Cup. Teams traveled from across the region and internationally for a weekend of tournament play at Mohawk Soccer Complex.
“Events such as this demonstrate the significant economic impact youth sports can have on our region. It is not just the kids coming; the parents, coaches and referees will all stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and visit our attractions,” said Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission.
The tournament has grown rapidly since its first year. The 2013 tournament added 20 teams, bringing the total to 29, seven of which were international teams.
